PULCINELLA

Creation: 2020
Original Cast: Sasha Riva – Simone Repele
Music: I.Stravinsky
Duration: ca. 30 min

– With Stravinsky’s “Suite Italienne”, Sasha Riva and Simone Repele reconstruct the history of the half-face mask, key to the history of Neapolitan folklore known all over the world.
An introspective journey that takes us back to the ancient ‘600 in which, the farmer Puccio d’Aniello, human legend and the only concrete protagonist who will reveal through the artistic vision of Sasha and Simone, all the sides that will build the enigmatic figure of Pulcinella. A reproduction of the story with a fairytale and plausible touch, aimed at creating a link between the human figure and the well-known mask in a sort of mystical fusion.
A symbolic scene analyzes the character by embodying contrasts and contradictions, from the funny clumsiness to a profound drama, an alleged intrinsic hermaphrodism for which reference is made to his shrill voice and the inexplicable female name.
The mask of the “commedia dell’arte”, always reproduced as stupid and crafty, demon and angel, wise and foolish, always suspended among the dangers of the Neapolitan city.
Pulcinella is thus represented by Sasha and Simone as in his integrity, aware of all the problems that afflict him but always ready to come out of them with joy, mocking the pitfalls that await him in the outside world and seeking refuge in his complex interiority. –
